After the first 4 days, my original 1/2 gallon frozen water bottles (used milk jugs) were still mostly solid. And later in the trip when all I could get was chip ice, it still performed very well. I employed ice conservation practices, and the weather was mid 80's to low 90's. so YMMV.I don't get the cutting board thing. In short, if you're thinking of buying this cooler for its cutting board, you are shopping in the wrong department. At first I thought it was not the correct part for the cooler because it fit in the slot provided very loosely. It most likely would not have a long life as a cutting board due to its construction. I suppose it works as a divider in the cooler, but I'm not sure what purpose that serves as ice melts. I really like the spring that holds the lid open.
