after driving truck for 40 yrs.,my husband doesn't go into truckstops to eat much. likes a cooler that plugs into cig. lighter socket. has had 2 coleman coolers and they didn't last long. so this time tried this koolatron. come to find out they sell parts for this cooler in the truckstops. he has only had this cooler a few weeks, but hasn't had the problems yet that he had with other ones. hopefully this will be the one. lots of drivers don't like going in to eat so much anymore because the food is too expensive. this way he can buy salads, jug of milk, water and before he shuts down for the night he can even buy ice cream and by the time he parks, it will still be o.k. .this cooler also warms. he doesn't know if he will do that, but it is an option.---------update 2012. have had the cooler since june of 2011 and it is working just fine. he is happy with it,and if he would need parts, some truck stops are supposed to sell them.

My old cooler konked out on me and I researched before buying a replacement. This brand got the best overall reviews and I am quite pleased with it. In our Texas heat, and with it in the garage, it has really been tested and I find it does as advertised. I ran it constantly for two months and it never failed to keep canned drinks, cheese, etc. very cool. When I first turned it on I put two frozen blueice units in for about an hour and then took them out and have never had to reinsert any to supplement the cooling.

Since my wife and I went off the grid, we use a bank of batteries to supply 12v for some lighting along with an inverter for occasional needs. We've had this Koolatron several weeks and find that it will cool things down to about 30 degrees if it runs continuously for a day or so, but it does drain the batteries more than we hoped. If I unplug the 12v power, the Koolatron will warm to near room temperature in a few hours, about the same as would a cardboard box. In the room at about 68 degrees, the Koolatron will warm from 30 degrees F up to 59 degrees overnite. I use a remote temperature sensor (of an atomic clock) to monitor the temp. I set the unit on two inches of styrofoam and cover it with a blanket, except for the vent area. I can't believe there is any insulation in its walls! But if you chill items prior to placement in this unit, and then run it continuously, it will keep them cool.
